Fort Gratiot Lighthouse
Located on the eastern border of Michigan, Fort Gratiot Lighthouse provides gorgeous waterfront views as the backdrop for your engagement photos. It’s one of a small number of remaining lighthouses that allows visitors to climb inside and take in views from the top as well. The lighthouse is open year-round, however, be sure to make an appointment if you’d like photos from inside the tower.
Ford House
The historic Edsel & Eleanor Ford House sits along Lake St. Clair just outside of Detroit. With nearly 87 acres, this estate has a large variety of beautiful locations for your engagement photos such as its vine-covered walls, open meadows, and waterfront property. The Ford House does require a photo permit and a submitted request in advance which your photographer should be able to handle for you.
North Shore Beach
We can’t have a list of the top Michigan engagement photo locations without a beach locale. For couples who have their engagement photos done in summer, or who want to brave the colder months, North Shore Beach has the natural beauty and lighting that makes for great engagement photos. We recommend shooting your photos in the early morning or at dusk for the best light. You may also have fewer crowds to worry about should you choose to take photos during the winter months. You’ll also have plenty of space to get creative and take whatever shots you’d like.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Voted “The Most Beautiful Place in America” in 2011 by Good Morning America, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a popular Michigan landmark. That also makes one of the best Michigan engagement photo locations. No matter what kind of shots you’re looking for, you’ll have a variety of scenic backdrops to choose from. Take photos along the trails or traverse up to Empire Bluff for one of the highest spots along the lakeshore. With 64 miles of park, you can explore the beaches, dunes, and forests while taking some truly memorable photos.
Grosse Ile Yacht Club
With breathtaking views of Lake Erie, Grosse Ile Yacht Club is one of our favorite waterfront locations for engagement photos. Surrounded by the sparkling water and colorful boats, you’ll have the perfect nautical background for your special photos. Take a stroll down the docks or grab a beachfront shot on the sandy shores. If you know someone who keeps a boat at the club, you can even climb aboard for some unforgettable photos on the deck.
