Due to the recent Coronavirus outbreak, many couples have been forced to postpone, cancel or change their wedding plans all together. Taking the celebration virtual has also been a popular option for all aspects of the wedding including your shower, virtual invites and live streaming your ceremony. From finding the best technology to games and decor, here are some tips to help you host a virtual wedding shower:
Technology
Choosing the right technology to host a virtual wedding shower is a crucial part of the planning process. Some of our favorites include Google Hangouts, Skype and Zoom. Be sure to choose a site that allows you to all see each other so you can celebrate together. Once you’ve chosen your platform, we recommend doing a test run to ensure you know how to work it and its features before the day of your shower.
Invitations
Since this will most likely be yours and your guests’ first virtual wedding shower, your invitations are an important detail. While you can choose to send your invites via mail, you can also keep with the virtual theme and send electronic invitations. Sites such as Shutterfly and Eventbrite have great free features that allow you to send customizable e-cards. Don’t forget to include important information like the date and time, link to join the shower online, RSVP instructions and registry details.
Party Decor
Just because you’ll be celebrating your wedding shower virtually doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun with the decorations! Once you’ve chosen a spot in your home where you’ll be hosting the shower from, fill your space with decor such as wedding-themed balloons, streamers and backdrops. You can also send a few decorations to your guests before the shower so they can hang them in their own homes to celebrate.
Virtual Games
Many wedding shower games are fairly easy to transition to a virtual setting such as bridal bingo. Not only do games get everyone involved and participating in the shower, they also encourage a little friendly competition. One of our favorites games is newlywed trivia by asking funny, random facts about the bride and groom. While you don’t need to splurge, it’s also fun to have prizes for the game winners like gift cards, spa goodies or even donating to the winner’s favorite charity during these times!
Open Gifts
If you’ll be including a registry link on your shower invitations, opening gifts is also a fun way to include everyone in a virtual wedding shower. Your registry makes it easy for guests to choose a fun item to send you and to open on camera during the shower. Some other fun gift ideas that could also be used in the future are hotel gift cards or airline miles for a honeymoon trip, a relaxing spa package or couple’s massage.
