Summer, with its warm weather and sunny skies, is one of our favorite times of year for a wedding. When attending a summer wedding, it’s important to plan the appropriate outfit as well. Whether the dress code is formal, casual, or cocktail, here are a few tips for planning your summer wedding attire this season.
Know the Dress Code
Before beginning to shop for your summer wedding attire, always be sure to check for a dress code. You can usually find this information on the wedding invitations. This will let you know if the couple would prefer more formal attire, or if something casual would be appropriate. Once you know the dress code, you can begin narrowing down your options for the big day.
Time of Day
Another important detail to consider when planning your outfit for a summer wedding is what time of day you’ll be attending the ceremony and reception. Since this is generally the warmest time of year, it’s best to stick with light and airy fabrics that will keep you cool for a daytime wedding. If the reception goes into the evening, be sure to bring a shoulder wrap or jacket if the temperature goes down. And don’t forget to pack a small tube of sunscreen – you never know how much shade will be available.
Wedding Location
While summer weddings are generally more casual, the location of the ceremony plays a large part in your summer wedding attire as well. For example, beachfront weddings allow for sandals and a flowing maxi dress. However for a backyard wedding, we recommend opting for wedge sandals that won’t get stuck in the grass along with a dress that won’t drag on the ground. Light fabrics and colors are also ideal such as pastels or bright pops of color.
For the Men
Because of the warmer weather you’ll encounter at a summer wedding, it’s best to go for a more relaxed fit for the men. A linen shirt or cotton jacket are great breathable fabrics while still maintaining a polished look. We recommend incorporating some neutral colors into your wedding day outfit such as beige, grey, and navy. You can also make some small adjustments such as loosening your tie or leaving a few shirt buttons open. For more formal summer wedding attire, you can never go wrong with a crisp white shirt and bow tie.
