Elements of a Rustic Wedding Dress

//  by The Wedding Shoppe

It takes more effort than you think to create an effortless, laid-back wedding. If you are dreaming of a rustic wedding theme, it all starts with the dress. We’ve made a list of the essential elements of a rustic wedding dress, so read on and discover how you can have a casual yet elegant wedding gown!

Dress Style

While there are many looks that may be considered rustic, there are a few traditional components that give a dress that countryside flair. For example, dresses that are simply embellished, lightweight, and flowing would be right at home in a rural setting.

You’ll find a lot of classic necklines and silhouettes among rustic dresses, like the sweetheart neckline and the A-line silhouette. This may sound silly, but a good gauge to see if a dress is “rustic” is whether you can picture yourself running through a field in it! If the dress is too cumbersome for that, it probably isn’t rustic. Say yes to a rustic wedding dress that makes you feel light on your feet and almost floaty.

Be More Relaxed

When you hear wedding “dress,” you’re probably picturing something floor-length, but there’s no rule that says it has to be! A relaxed dress code is an easy way to make a wedding more rustic, and that extends to your dress.

Instead of going for the traditional full-length gown, go for a tea-length dress (and potentially even some casual shoes, if you’re feeling adventurous)!

Add Some DIY Elements

Rustic weddings often incorporate homemade elements, so why not bring that energy to your rustic wedding gown? If you love to make beautiful creations with your hands (particularly if you’re a talented seamstress), add your own touch to your dress.

This is a fantastic way to bring your own creativity to your wedding, but remember to keep things simple—you don’t want to create too much work for yourself leading up to your wedding day!

Incorporate Nature

A natural touch is a simple way to pull a rustic wedding dress together. A flower here, a sprig of leaves there, and you can create an eye-catching accent that makes your dress sing. You don’t need to add these natural elements into your dress, either. Add earthy tones to bridesmaids gowns, bouquets, or accessories—wherever you feel they fit!

Go Beyond the Dress

A rustic wedding gown is one thing, but why stop there? You can bring the same rustic energy to the rest of your ceremony, too! Host your wedding in a clearing of trees, or create all-natural centerpieces for each table.

You can also bring rustic vibes into the rest of your ensemble—in addition to the dress, wear your hair down along with natural makeup to complete the rustic look. Keep your accessories simple and elegant, as rustic weddings often come with a sense of minimalism.
