International Women’s Day occurs annually on March 8th as a “global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.” As we begin to celebrate International Women’s Month this March, The Wedding Shoppe is reflecting on our history, our founder, and our incredible team of women.
About Michelle, Founder & Owner
Michelle McFarland founded The Wedding Shoppe in 1999 with some credit cards, a small savings account, and a big idea. With no experience whatsoever in the bridal industry, The Wedding Shoppe began by selling only accessories. Things began to take a turn in 2008 when Michelle began adding exclusive wedding dresses and bridesmaid gowns to the store’s selection.
Brides quickly took notice that The Wedding Shoppe was different than your average bridal store. Not only did Michelle create an environment where all brides felt comfortable, they also felt heard and cared for during their shopping experience.
Since opening the doors nearly 23 years ago, The Wedding Shoppe has helped more than 9,000 brides find the dress of their dreams. Michelle has also flourished into a leading industry expert in the wedding space. Her accolades include:
- President of the Better Bridal Group, a 501c(3) non-profit dedicated to mentoring and training bridal store owners around the world on providing the best experience for their brides.
- Founder and President of the National Bridal Retailers Association, a 501c(6) non-profit focused on consolidating the voices of independent bridal store owners to effect change in our industry.

The Wedding Shoppe is proud to employ an amazing team of women. Their main goal is to help brides find the perfect dress that makes them feel stunning and beautiful for their special day.
