Is a Backyard Wedding for You?

//  by The Wedding Shoppe

Not only are backyard weddings a great option for saving money, they can also create a more personal and intimate atmosphere on your wedding day. From easy decorating to fun lawn games, here are a few ways to know if a backyard wedding is right for you.

Rent Equipment

Renting equipment for your backyard wedding is one of our biggest tips for a stress-free day. They’ll handle the entire setup and take down process for you, so you can focus on enjoying your wedding with family and friends. Depending on the weather and time of year of your wedding, you can also ask your rental company about heating or cooling options to help control the temperature and keep your guests comfortable.

Easy Decorating

When the wedding is taking place at your home, you’ll have total freedom to decorate however you like! Once you’ve created a guest list and have a relative idea of how large or small your wedding will be, you can start laying out the space and planning your decorations. We recommend starting the planning process about eight weeks before your big day so you have plenty of time and can easily reorganize if needed.

Know Your Insurance

Hosting a wedding in your own backyard also comes with some legal obligations. Be sure to check with your local city officials to know if you’ll need permits to host a large gathering at your home such as noise ordinances and fire codes. You should also contact your homeowner’s insurance to find out what’s covered if there happens to be a small accident or property damage. We recommend letting your neighbors know your wedding date ahead of time as well so they aren’t surprised when guests begin arriving and it gets a bit noisy!

Fun and Games

One of our favorite benefits of a backyard wedding is you can take full advantage of the outdoor space for some fun lawn games. Set up a space for guests to play cricket, crochet or corn hole along with a few creative prizes for the winners. If you know that a lot of kids will be attending your wedding, you can also consider having a separate children’s area with their own fun and games.

If you’ll be hosting your wedding during the warmer months, you’ll want a dress that fits the season too. Head over to our blog with some of our favorite wedding dresses for summer to find a style you’ll love! Don’t forget to reach out when you are ready to find the dress of your dreams!
