Beautiful Fit, Perfect Day: Expert Wedding Dress Alterations
Finding your dream wedding dress is just the beginning. Wedding dress alterations ensure your gown fits like it was made just for you, enhancing every detail for your special day. At The Wedding Shoppe, our expert Alterations Specialists refine and tailor your dress with precision, so you walk down the aisle feeling confident and beautiful.

What You Should Know
When Do Alterations Begin on My Wedding Dress?
We begin alterations 4 to 5 months before your wedding day to ensure every detail is perfected.
For Custom Design Changes: For custom alterations such as adding sleeves, lowering the back, or lining the bodice, we start 5 months in advance.
For Standard Alterations: For standard fit adjustments, we begin 4 months prior.
This timeline allows for multiple fittings and fine-tuning, ensuring a seamless fit. Appointments are limited, so we’ll text you when it’s time to schedule. Let us know promptly if you’d like us to handle your alterations or if you’ll be working with a different seamstress.
How Much Will Alterations Cost?
Wedding dress alterations vary based on the gown’s fabric, complexity, and the adjustments needed. The average cost for standard alterations, including bodice adjustments, hemming, and a bustle, is around $700. Our skilled specialists ensure that every detail is tailored to you, creating a flawless fit that enhances your bridal silhouette.
How to Secure Alterations Services
Alteration appointments at The Wedding Shoppe are in high demand. To secure your spot, we require a $200 non-refundable deposit, which applies to your alterations cost.
Your appointment is officially scheduled once your deposit is received and your invoice is signed. This ensures our specialists have dedicated time to perfect your gown. If you plan to work with an outside seamstress, let us know as soon as possible so we can accommodate other brides.
Guidance for Our Out-of-Town Brides
For brides traveling to The Wedding Shoppe for alterations, we understand the challenges of coordinating fittings from a distance. Most out-of-town brides prefer to complete alterations closer to home, but if you’d like to work with our specialists, you’ll need to commit to monthly appointments for four months leading up to your wedding. Custom work may require additional fittings, so please consider travel logistics when deciding where to complete your bridal gown alterations.
Shoes and Undergarments Are Required
To ensure your gown’s fit, bring your wedding shoes and undergarments to every alterations appointment. Shoes determine hem length and posture, while undergarments, such as strapless bras or shapewear, impact the overall fit. Without these, we cannot proceed with alterations.
Making a Custom Change After Purchase?
If you decide on a custom alteration after purchasing your dress, schedule a Consultation Appointment with our team. During this session, we’ll discuss feasibility, fabric needs, and provide a price quote. A $25 consultation fee applies, which is credited toward your alterations. Custom work requires additional time, so plan accordingly to bring your vision to life.

Learn More
During this session, our specialist will meticulously examine your dress once more, making sure that every bead, seam, and layer is just as you envisioned. We highly recommend bringing a trusted individual to your final fitting, specifically to learn how to bustle your wedding dress. The bustling process can be intricate, and having someone familiar with your dress and its unique bustle design will ensure that you can effortlessly transition from ceremony to reception without any worries. We encourage you to make a video recording of the bustling demonstration during the final fitting. This serves as a valuable reference for both you and your helper on the wedding day. With the excitement and busyness of the day, it’s easy to forget the specific steps involved. By having a video guide, you can easily refresh your memory and confidently recreate the stunning bustle that perfectly compliments your dress.
We want to make sure your dress is perfectly prepared for its big debut at your wedding. Most likely our Alterations Specialist will need a bit more time to press and pack your gown with the utmost care, so we’ll schedule a “pick up” appointment for you. This way, you can be assured your dream dress will be ready and waiting for your special day.

Wedding Dress Alterations FAQs
How Many People Can I Bring to My Alterations Appointment?
To maintain a stress-free and focused fitting experience, we kindly request that you bring only one guest to your appointment. This allows our specialists to work efficiently while ensuring clear communication and a serene atmosphere.
Be Kind — Be On Time
Timeliness is crucial for a smooth alterations process. Arriving late can impact our carefully scheduled appointments and delay your progress. Missed appointments without a 48-hour notice will incur a $45 fee, and repeated rescheduling may result in rush charges.
Canceling, Missing and Rescheduling Appointments
We strongly encourage brides to commit to their scheduled fittings. Our alterations schedule fills months in advance, making rescheduling difficult. Canceling within 48 hours results in a $45 missed appointment fee, and multiple changes may require rush fees to complete your dress on time.
I Still Need Bridal Accessories
If you need a veil, jewelry, headpiece, or other accessories, let us know before your first alterations appointment. We’d love to set up an accessories appointment for you! It takes a dedicated stylist (and a bit of time) to find the pieces that fit your vision, and we don’t want you to feel rushed during an alterations appointment.
Please note, accessories cannot be stored with your gown during the alterations process, so you’ll take them home for safekeeping.
Communication Throughout the Process
We want you to feel your absolute best on your wedding day. If you have concerns about your dress fit at any point, reach out to your Alterations Specialist or Bridal Stylist. Addressing adjustments early ensures the best results. Our team is passionate about making you feel stunning in your gown—your feedback helps us bring your vision to life. Voicing your feelings during this process helps us be more on your team and gives us plenty of time to ensure you feel like your most beautiful self on your wedding day.
Wedding dress alterations enhance your bridal look with expert tailoring. From custom adjustments to standard bridal gown alterations, our specialists refine every detail so you feel confident on your big day. Let’s create a gorgeous fit for your unforgettable wedding moment.
